Texas A&M Hires Mike Sherman
November 26, 2007 | 1 Comment

Sorry Tommy, the job’s taken.
Texas A&M decided not to pursue Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville, instead hiring former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike Sherman today. It’s safe to say Sherman knows what he’s getting into, since he has twice been an assistant at A&M, serving as offensive line coach from 1989-93 and 1995-96.
Coach Sherman takes over an Aggies team that has struggled in the last five years, going 32-28 in the hyper-competitive Big XII South. For him to succeed he’ll have to start beating Oklahoma and Texas, and start doing it quickly.
Defensive coordinator Gary Darnell will lead the Aggies in their bowl game while Sherman finishes out the season with the Houston Texans.
Sherman signed a 7 year contract worth $1.8 million per year, a $200,000 savings over former coach Dennis Franchione. Let’s hope that he shows a better ability to stay out of trouble than Coach Fran did…
