Syracuse football coach Greg RobinsonIn a move that defies rumors, conjecture, and possibly common sense, Syracuse athletic director Daryl Gross announced today that coach Greg Robinson will be back for the 2008 season. Robinson “led” the Orange to a 2-10 record this season. And one of the wins was an upset over a Louisville team that turned out to be pretty bad themselves.

Here are few fun facts about the Greg Robinson reign at Syracuse:

  • The team’s record is 7-28
  • In their 28 losses they’ve been outscored by 514 points (or over 18 points per game, not exactly nail-biters)
  • They’re 2-19 in the Big East.

On top of all that, ESPN reports:

Improvement was expected this fall after the Orange finished 4-8 in 2006. Instead, they put up these sorry numbers: 1-6 and last in the Big East; 63 yards rushing and 292 yards of offense per game; nine sacks and 54 sacks allowed; 16 points per game and 35 points allowed per game; and 469 yards allowed per game.

I’m no genius, but I’m pretty sure when you score 16 points per game and give up 35 you’re not going to win many games.

With those stats it’s no surprise Robinson comes in pretty low in our rankings. How low? 117 out of 120. That’s right, only SMU’s Phil Bennett (fired), Minnesota’s Tim Brewster, and Notre Dame’s Charlie Weiss rank lower.

I just want to know what kind of dirty pictures Robinson has of Daryl Gross…
