NIU’s Novak Retires
November 26, 2007 | Leave a Comment
Former MAC Coach of the Year Joe Novak retired from Northern Illinois today after 16 years with the program. In his 12 years as head coach Novak turned the program from perennial loser to only semi-perennial loser.
In his first couple of years with the Huskies Novak lost 23 consecutive games. Then he righted the ship, leading NIU to two bowl games and seven straight winning seasons. Unfortunately for Novak the team went 2-10 this year, sinking back into the quagmire that is MAC mediocrity.
Our rankings show it was probably time for Novak to go, since he came in at #78.
